4ÆM - Grimes

This is one of the most energizing and exciting songs of the year without a doubt. If I ever want to get somewhere really fast, I throw this on and my bike goes warp speed. The atmosphere in the song is so out-of-this-world with Grimes' voice sounding like a heavenly spirit on psychedelics. It sounds like a dream; everything is very hazy and hard to make out, based on regular music but so distinctly surreal. The Bollywood sample and use of some pretty Indian-inspired melodies help add to the exoticism, bringing in sounds almost never heard in western pop music. 

It's got amazing this driving breakbeat DNB sound that accelerates the song from it's one-minute introductory build-up into a transcendent new gear for the chorus. The 'na-na-na' melody feels so liberating, with a youthful energy. It's such a satisfying conclusion that just lets all the tension out. It's overwhelming but that's what gives it its power. When it comes in it becomes impossible for me to focus on whatever is going on in the real world, I just become completely wrapped up in the music and let it take me. 

It amazes me that someone who can make such amazing music has such atrocious taste in men. Fuck Elon. Grimes is better than that.
